Vanis Kvabebi combines early cave dwellings with later rock-cut residential and storage spaces. Groups of cells surround Saint George’s church. Repeated earthquakes prompted reconstruction, including renewal of the masonry enclosure in 1204. The ensemble records an important stage in the development of Georgia’s rock-cut monastic architecture.
