ADJARACARS / FIELD NOTES
A mountain day starts the evening before
Check the route, the current access and a realistic return time.
Choose a route for the season
Choose the route for the season and your experience before choosing the car. Visitajara’s mountain guidance recommends route preparation, suitable equipment and sharing your intended itinerary with someone. A scenic photograph says little about today’s road or trail condition.
Check current access and weather
Check current restrictions through the Roads Department and the relevant park or local operator. Recheck the forecast close to departure. Do not turn an old report of an open road into a promise that it is open today. Keep an easier alternative and a clear turn-back time.
Check border-area requirements
Some routes near Georgia’s border with Turkey require advance coordination or a permit. Visitajara specifically flags Khikhani and certain Shuamta approaches. Contact the Border Police through the official channel for current requirements before planning such a route. These places are excluded from automatic driving suggestions here.
Plan daylight, walking time and alternatives
Allow time for the final walk, food, daylight and changing conditions. Download maps only from a provider that permits offline use; this website’s public OpenStreetMap tiles are not an offline download service. If a route, permit or road is uncertain, keep the day closer to a settlement and obtain local guidance.
